Heya. I'm the guy who helped with the game's balance, even if as you said, it's not easy.

I think what crippled Shattered Throne's chance of getting enough good PR was the general hostility of the Advance Wars community unto itself. The general hostility has to be seen to be believed, but suffice it to say that one of its most prominent and celebrated members throws about material that is disgusting disrespect to say the least. And he's not even the worst. It becomes hypocritical of them, then, to claim that the most cringeworthy thing in the Advance Wars communities is literally anything I say. I wish I was exaggerating:

Here's the topic that showcases their response to ST's release:
    https://www.reddit.com/...e_released_on_steam/

Within that 2nd link, I'm going to address this particular "paragraph" for lack of a better term:
"When did games become this wimpy? Last I checked, no one was complaining about the luck roll in AW. Sometimes your 97% attack doesn't 1HKO. Deal with it"

That question is, of course, darwinistic. As to the sentence right after, nobody complained about AW's luck because it was way too mitigated, and it still made Sonja suffer for reasons worth complaining about. And as for the 97% damage attack not 1HKOing, the 97% damage scenario happening is its own idiocy. It happens because defense boosts in every game in the entire Nintendo Wars series sans Game Boy Wars 3 ruins burst damage as a result of how it gets used, and a key balancing matchup, the Anti-Air Tank VS Infantry, isn't given enough base damage to compensate.

Of course, given the last sentence of that comment, you can see that the guy simply does not care.

I would have posted about Shattered Throne on vanilla TV Tropes, but of course, I got banned from there several years due to what ultimately amounts to so little more than an honest mistake on my part, and considering that vanilla TV Tropes has pulled frustrating problems toward other people and has my ban reason as "for being a (d-word)", you can tell the community proved to consist of selfish, deluded hypocrites, which they still are as a matter of fact. I don't know how much posting how much posting on vanilla TV Tropes would have helped, but it might have been better than nothing.

At the end of the day, yeah, people don't want to play nice and that is why we can't have nice things. I would certainly welcome things like not needing to hold Shift to break lines on this site instead of creating a comment I can't edit even if I can at least delete it.
