Games are fun, but at the end of the day, building games is a business. It’s not all design and development. Funding and publishing must also be taken into consideration when building or running a studio. Luckily, independent developers looking for insights on these topics will find everything they need in Casual Connect USA 2018’s Business of Games track.

It’s hard to make games or build a studio to develop them without any money. Several speakers at Casual Connect USA 2018 will dive into various facets of funding and fundraising. In one panel, experts from March Capital Partners, NBC Sports Ventures & Comcast Ventures, Greycroft, Crosscut Ventures, and Crossover Technologies will discuss venture capital. Another panel made up of investors and studio founders and led by Braavo Capital Co-Founder Mark Loranger will teach attendees about different methods of funding and how to secure the money they need once they’ve found the type of funding that best suits their needs.

Publishing will be a major focus of the Business of Games track. Experts from Kongregate, flaregames, Scopely, and Nexon M will debate whether publisher-developer partnerships for F2P games can ever be smooth, share best practices, and detail what bumps in the road developers should prepare for. In a solo-presentation, Yodo1 Director of Global Business Development & Marketing Matthew Leopold will go through the process of publishing PC games in China.

Louis-Rene Auclair of RocketJump Games will share with attendees how to find the best publishing deal for their video games and, in a set of panels, experts from DigitalDevConnect, BoomBit, Falafel Games, flaregames, Indie Prize, and more will cover all the ins and outs of the publishing realm.

Networking & More

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Casual Connect conference without networking parties and opportunities for building partnerships. At Casual Connect USA 2018, attendees can enjoy three networking parties positioned close to the venue as well as free unlimited use of Casual Connect’s exclusive Pitch & Match meeting system. They’ll also be able to talk with industry-leading companies and innovative independent developers in the conference’s exhibition and Indie Prize Showcase areas.

Attendees will also get access to substantial discounts on the Disneyland® Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier® Hotel, and Disneyland® Resort Theme Park tickets. Those interested in learning more about the conference or purchasing a pass can do so at their official website.
